Volunteer Kitchen Assistant (Community Catering)

What's involved?

  • Assist the chef in preparation, cooking, packing, labelling and storage of meals for delivery.
  • Assist with cleaning & wash up of all food preparation areas.
  • Ensure that all referrals, queries and comments, suggestions or feedback regarding our meals service are appropriately forwarded to the chef or co-ordinator.

Time slots available: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday mornings 8am-1pm. Our requirements change weekly, see 'When you can volunteer' below for current requirements.

Commitment: 1 weekly shift , 6-months commitment.

Level of English required: Intermediate

Service Description

COPE Galway Community Catering Service delivers nutritious meals to the homes of older people, housebound people or those unable to prepare a meal for themselves. The service provides approximately 200 meals daily, which are delivered by a team of volunteer drivers.

Personal Specification

A reliable, punctual and trustworthy team player with a warm friendly manner. A good communicator who can listen and respond sensitively to people. Non-judgmental and accepting attitude.

Will there be induction and training?

You will receive an induction and introduction to the role before you start.  You will be offered training required for the role. COPE Galway will provide ongoing support and supervision while you are volunteering.

Recruitment Process

Successful applicants will be offered the volunteer role subject to 2 Reference Checks and Garda Vetting / Police Certs if required. Volunteers commencing with COPE Galway are subject to a trial period.
