Food Rescue Volunteer (Community Catering)
What's involved?
- Pick up food items from designated supermarkets and deliver them to our Community Catering Unit in Ballybane.
- Assist with unloading Van and sorting donations.
- Heavy lifting required.
Location Food Business operators / Local retail outlets / All COPE Galway services
Time slots available 1-2 hours per week – one evening shift
Commitment Minimum 6 months
Level of English required Intermediate
Special requirements
The role requires the volunteer to be a qualified driver with own car, full driving licence & insurance. The use of your own car will be at your own expense due to the volume of deliveries required in our service. This contribution is greatly appreciated. Advise your insurance company of your volunteer work. A template letter for your insurance company will be provided.
Service Description
Meals4Health is a social enterprise of COPE Galway which provides an essential domestic service to vulnerable older people and those living with chronic illness by producing and home delivering fresh, affordable ready meals. This service plays a vital role in enabling our clients to live independently. All of our meals have been designed to meet the particular nutritional needs of our customers. Each one of our meals can be modified for medically related dietary requirements.
Will there be induction and training?
You will receive an induction and introduction to the role before you start. You will be offered training required for the role. COPE Galway will provide ongoing support and supervision while you are volunteering.

General information
Volunteers should not undertake duties outside this role description without checking first with their Volunteer Supervisor. Volunteers are requested to adhere to the “Volunteer Agreement” which includes their rights and responsibilities as outlined in our Volunteer Handbook.
Recruitment Process
Successful applicants will be offered the volunteer role subject to the following
- 2 Reference checks.
- Signed Declaration of suitability to volunteer if Garda vetting is not a requirement for your role.
- Garda Vetting / Police Certs if required. Volunteers commencing with COPE Galway are subject to a trial period.
